With a total course length of 13,629 km in 2009, this is one of the longest race courses in the world. The most famous sections are the corners at Tertre Rouge, Mulsanne, Indianapolis and Arnage, and the Hunaudières Straight. This is the Le Mans museum of archaeology and history, and through its collections it traces the story of the city and the surrounding areas from the earliest human settlements onwards.
This museum was restored in 1990 and it contains various fine art collections (paintings, sculptures and other works of art). Since 2001 the museum has had an exhibition which takes visitors back in time to the world of Ancient Egypt under the pharaohs.
This museum is named after the wife of Richard the Lionheart, and its displays include an outstanding collection of vernacular regional ceramics as well as paintings by the local 19th century artists.
Over the centuries the cathedral has evolved to reflect different styles of architecture and the master craftsmen behind them. The fact that it took almost five centuries to build has given the cathedral an impressive range of architectural styles. This religious building is also one of the biggest in France: it measures 134 m in length and covers an area of 5,000 square metres. Saint-Julien cathedral, together with Notre-Dame cathedral in Chartres, has the finest collection of mediaeval stained glass windows in the world. The Ascension window is the oldest stained glass window that is still in place in a religious building (end of the 11th and first half of the 12th century) .
